When was the last time you got excited about buying a vehicle? It’s easy to be enthusiastic as you start shopping for the best car, truck, or SUV, but that feeling usually fades when you visit a dealership. Unfortunately, the traditional car-buying experience often puts us on the defensive against fast-talking salespeople who only care about their commission rather than your needs. It takes the joy out of the experience altogether.

What if you could work with a dealership that shares your excitement? What would that process look like for you, and how meaningful would it be? It starts by putting your trust in the team at Ryan Chrysler Jeep Dodge.

Buying a sedan like the Chrysler 300, a Jeep like the Wrangler or Gladiator, or a Dodge like the Challenger or Charger should be enjoyable and rewarding. After all, it’s not every day you get to bring your automotive dreams to life, so why not celebrate? With Ryan Chrysler Jeep Dodge, we make it easy to celebrate by offering the best selection and customer experience in the region. At Ryan Chrysler Jeep Dodge, you always come first.

Our Legacy

Our unique customer approach is integral to our legacy, which began in 1945 when James Ryan followed his dreams of working in the automotive industry. Mr. Ryan started his career with the Chevrolet Motor Division and spent the next 12 years learning everything he could about the industry. By then, he was ready to expand his talents and learn new skills, which prompted him to take a position as General Sales Manager of Rydell Chevrolet in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1957.

With the encouragement of North Dakota’s most prominent salesman, Leonard Rydell, Mr. Ryan flourished at the helm of the dealership and spent the next 17 years leading his team to ongoing success. By 1973, Mr. Ryan’s growth as a businessman and manager led to the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to purchase his first dealership. The choice was easy, as Mr. Ryan and his wife, Ann, relocated to Minot and opened Jim Ryan Chevrolet, formerly Auran Chevrolet.

Mr. Ryan put his heart and soul into the dealership, encouraging his team just as his mentors had done. In doing so, he built a reputation for his exceptional leadership, unparalleled commitment to his customers, and willingness to go the extra mile for anyone who walked through the doors of the dealership. His integrity, respect, and honesty defined everything he did, earning him national recognition as a regional finalist for TIME Magazine’s National Dealer of the Year Award in 1986.

Our Promise

Today, we are proud to continue Mr. Ryan’s legacy by keeping our promise to put every customer first. After his 27-year tenure at the helm of Jim Ryan Chevrolet, Mr. Ryan handed the reins over to his daughter, Kathleen, in the new millennium. With Kathleen sharing her father’s passion and values, the transition was seamless as Jim Ryan Chevrolet became the cornerstone of Ryan Family Dealerships. Along the way, Kathleen earned national recognition as a finalist for the 2010 TIME Magazine’s National Dealer of the Year Award. Like father, like daughter, indeed.

Ryan Family Dealerships are pillars in North Dakota communities like Minot and Williston. Dealerships like Ryan Chrysler Jeep Dodge embody the values of integrity, honesty, and transparency that have defined the family business since the 1970s. With the Ryan name, you’re guaranteed a high-caliber experience where you and your automotive needs always come first. It’s our promise and a privilege to deliver as your automotive home away from home.

Dealership History

At an early age, Mr. James Ryan decided to make the automotive business his life’s work. It began in 1945 when he took a position with Chevrolet Motor Division. That lasted 12 years until Mr. Ryan teamed with another legend of the North Dakota automotive scene – Leonard Rydell.

In 1957, Mr. Ryan joined Rydell Chevrolet in Grand Forks as its General Sales Manager and later, General Manager. He would work with Mr. Rydell for almost 17 years until, in late 1973, Auran Chevrolet in Minot became available. Mr. Ryan moved with his wife, Anne to Minot to assume control of the newly named Jim Ryan Chevrolet.

Under Mr. Ryan’s leadership, the dealership blossomed. Beyond the obvious physical alterations to the dealership, Mr. Ryan instilled in each and every employee a fervent commitment to unparalleled customer service. It was his responsibility to serve the people of Minot with honesty and integrity, day in, day out, without exception.

His commitment to customer-centric service was apparent to all, including his competitors and colleagues. It earned him recognition on a national scale when, in 1986, he was a regional finalist for Time Magazine’s National Dealer of the Year.

At the turn of the century, after a celebrated 27-year tenure at the half of Jim Ryan Chevrolet, Mr. Ryan retired, leaving the day-to-day operations in the capable hands of the third of his five daughters, Kathleen Gaddie.

Under Kathleen and Michael’s leadership, Ryan Family Dealerships thrived and expanded: first, by purchasing Neilson Stewart GMC in Minot in 2003, then acquiring a used car store in Williston, ND in 2005. In 2007 they purchased Williston Honda Chrysler a Honda Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership and renamed it Ryan Motors.

Kathleen, continuing in her father’s footsteps, was also one of four national finalists for the 2010 Time Magazine’s National Dealer of the Year award.
